dereguliert I is a video documentation of a performance by monkeys. It shows a family of monkeys at play, illustrating how effective, purposeful behaviour gives way to the pure pleasure of play.
The background for this work is the demand for flexibility and deregulation so often voiced in the hope that such measures will jump-start the economy. In the political context, the concept of deregulation is applied exclusively to the economy, while the aspect of deregulated existence is virtually ignored. As soon as the state encounters true deregulation massive security precautions - as at the zoo - are instituted or a social industry is brought in to manage the deregulation.
