ROR (revolutions on request)
Installation, 2005
is a Helsinki based artist collective. Its members, Klaus Nyqvist, Karoliina Taipale, Panu Puolakka and Jiri Geller have since 1998 hosted a countless number of guest artists in their shows.
For «faites vos jeux», ROR pose as a pop group. Using a number of signs from MTV, music magazines and posters, they have designed life-size figures as we know them from advertisements in cinemas or other commercial spaces. On the one hand, ROR market themselves with this gesture, and with printed balloons. On the other hand, the aggressive self-marketing is turned into absurdity by the sheer number of figures, thereby exposing the emptiness of the pose.
Even if there is an atmosphere of artistic utopia in every ROR show, the group is nihilist towards all kinds of explicit ideologies so typical for traditional avant-garde and contemporary artist collectives. ROR is totally indifferent to the impact of its artistic revolution outside of ROR, as ROR itself is already a whole world. The same applies for scientific, political, feminist, psychedelic and technological revolt.
